FantasticA pleasant mixture of comedy with bouts of brutal violence to meet out justice。 I devoured this book as well as the first two in the series。 I enjoyed every second and wait impatiently for the next。

Another good one in the seriesI've really been enjoying this series。 It's one of those send back in time situations and while it is Wuxia, with all the craziness that the genre normally brings along, it is quite a fun read。 Another good one in the seriesI've really been enjoying this series。 It's one of those send back in time situations and while it is Wuxia, with all the craziness that the genre normally brings along, it is quite a fun read。 。。。more

Another solid book from Michael Head。 Though the series is a bit formulaic (they fight the bad guys, kings and other high parties turn out to be evil, etc etc) it's still full of action and keeps you engaged。 I'm curious as to how this series will be at least 15 books? Picked up on audible but wanted to put up a review here as well。 This is a great continuation of the story。 Fights are superbly written, fast paced and brutal as hell。 Also has some of the best comedy I've read in ages。 Honestly the author's balance between dark brutal fights and light hearted journey with friends is just amazing。 Can't wait for the next book in this series Picked up on audible but wanted to put up a review here as well。 This is a great continuation of the story。 Fights are superbly written, fast paced and brutal as hell。 Also has some of the best comedy I've read in ages。 Honestly the author's balance between dark brutal fights and light hearted journey with friends is just amazing。 Can't wait for the next book in this series 。。。more

Feeling a lot more formulaic this time round, our intrepid adventurers head onto the high seas to face more Nox and more horrible excuses for human beings。 There's still great writing, some fun moments of levity and an interesting and winding adventure (if a little expected and repetitive feeling at times), but the loss of a possibly interesting and new relationship to return to the grind this time around, was a little disappointing for me, here's hoping to a little more light for our MC in the Feeling a lot more formulaic this time round, our intrepid adventurers head onto the high seas to face more Nox and more horrible excuses for human beings。 There's still great writing, some fun moments of levity and an interesting and winding adventure (if a little expected and repetitive feeling at times), but the loss of a possibly interesting and new relationship to return to the grind this time around, was a little disappointing for me, here's hoping to a little more light for our MC in the next edition。 。。。more

The sense of risk is diminishing as the team's capabilities skyrocket。 At one point Jim makes an off-hand statement about the need to investigate the suitability of the king's successor before they kill the king。 That demonstrates how little challenge they've come to expect from life。 In addition, the king eventually dies without that investigation and the team moves on regardless。I'm enjoying the series, I just worry that the enemy will have to become cartoonishly powerful just to keep things b The sense of risk is diminishing as the team's capabilities skyrocket。 At one point Jim makes an off-hand statement about the need to investigate the suitability of the king's successor before they kill the king。 That demonstrates how little challenge they've come to expect from life。 In addition, the king eventually dies without that investigation and the team moves on regardless。I'm enjoying the series, I just worry that the enemy will have to become cartoonishly powerful just to keep things balanced。 I hope the challenges become more cerebral in nature。。。 necessitating difficult choices where some sort of cost is almost certain。 。。。more

Rating 4。0 stars I still like the series and the characters but I wasn't as impressed with the growth of the character。 The MC didn't seem to use any of his information from the future in this one, at least nothing new。 The main benefit of coming back in time is that a person knows what is going to happen。 He used that information to help his cultivation grow faster but nothing more specific。 I also felt there was a little more contradiction in this story。 Since the beginning the MC is worried a Rating 4。0 stars I still like the series and the characters but I wasn't as impressed with the growth of the character。 The MC didn't seem to use any of his information from the future in this one, at least nothing new。 The main benefit of coming back in time is that a person knows what is going to happen。 He used that information to help his cultivation grow faster but nothing more specific。 I also felt there was a little more contradiction in this story。 Since the beginning the MC is worried about keeping a low profile because he does not want to get the attention of the empire。 More specifically, the emperor's son。 yet he and his group are way stronger that they should be for there age and are always right in the middle of conflict。 How is that keeping a low profile? Then there is his advancement。 (view spoiler)[ The MC was on the verge of becoming a Saint cultivator。 He mentioned that he might just need a big fight to push him over the edge to reach that level。 Yet when he was in combat he had to hold back advancing because it would have caused problems in his fight。 Which one was it? He mentioned that he had children in his previous life and talked about taking care of them。 I wonder when he will realize that those kids are gone forever and will never be born? He didn't sound broken up about it。 The last fight was a little annoying for me。 The MC is supposed to be really smart but he did some stupid things there。 The gate was pulling in the blood from the dead。 The gate was a portal to the Nox world and would allow the demons to come to this world。 He kept killing everything around him and kept feeding the gate。 What the hell was he thinking。 When he finally won, it was a complete fluke。 I was expecting much more from the MC。 (hide spoiler)] Overall I still love the characters and the humor is subtle but works well。 。。。more

All three books in this series are amazing and it ultimately saddens me that some individuals have chosen one of two options:1。 Chosen to read the first one, didn't like it, left a bad review, and continued to place bad reviews on the following books claiming to have read them。 Only to prove with what they wrote that they had no idea what was going on in the books。 2。 Are putting down the author and endorsing other authors。 Shame on all of you petty individuals。 Back to the book! This third installation in the series is my favorite。 I loved Every so much and am hoping to see more of him in future installments。 I absolutely could not put the book down once the MC got to the doorway to another dimension (no spoilers, you'll have to read the book ALL the way through for this one)。 It was so fast paced and detailed that I had no issues with losing sleep finishing it。 I also loved how it showed that Jim's future has changed along the way and he is doing his best in dealing with what is thrown his way。 It was also cute and a nice reprieve from the harsh realities of the world they live in to see some silliness in all of the books: joking about clothes, babies, and the horse。 I loved it and I recommend this to anyone who loves a good book。 。。。more

I am enjoying this series quite a bit。 It was free as part of Kindle Unlimited, so gets a pass on spelling and punctuation errors (there were a few, not a lot)。 The characters were well written, and likeable (at least the good guys), a slight element of Marty Stu in the main character, but not the worst I have seen。 My biggest Criticisms of this book, and the entire series, is the general overpoweredness of the main character, though this is a feature in most all Xianxia novels I have read。 with I am enjoying this series quite a bit。 It was free as part of Kindle Unlimited, so gets a pass on spelling and punctuation errors (there were a few, not a lot)。 The characters were well written, and likeable (at least the good guys), a slight element of Marty Stu in the main character, but not the worst I have seen。 My biggest Criticisms of this book, and the entire series, is the general overpoweredness of the main character, though this is a feature in most all Xianxia novels I have read。 with the minor flows and issues, I think it is still well worth reading。 。。。more

New author mistakes makes this middling at best。Story all to often feels forced with characters doing things and not, along with behaving ooc in ways that come across as wrong when considered, just to further the plot。 This harms the overall story from my POV as the reader。 The preponderance of monologs mid combat along with a constant bumbling comedy of errors, with nothing really working out until taken to the extreme, becomes painful rather quickly。There are also some issues with what I consi New author mistakes makes this middling at best。Story all to often feels forced with characters doing things and not, along with behaving ooc in ways that come across as wrong when considered, just to further the plot。 This harms the overall story from my POV as the reader。 The preponderance of monologs mid combat along with a constant bumbling comedy of errors, with nothing really working out until taken to the extreme, becomes painful rather quickly。There are also some issues with what I consider plot holes that are barely covered over with excuses, some which carry over from the previous books。 Added to that is a not infrequent breaking of the 4th wall when the author attempts comedy or the like。 Mentions of things from other story universes and what not, then adding to that with a wink wink “did you see what I did there” sentence。。 I found it off putting to say the least。All that said if a person doesn’t mind some of the issues mentioned and is able to apply slightly more suspension of disbelief then I, why then I figure this book will surely entertain。It is not as if it doesn’t have its good points too。Personally I just think it could be so much more。 This is of course only the 3rd instalment in a series by a completely new author and the promise I have perceived so far suggests the possibility of great things to come in the future, from Michael Head。 。。。more

Book threeMistakes: I found two in this book。 One is a bit of a plot problem。 During the ship to ship battle the sergeant begs for the life of his officer, saying that he is a good kid。 Later he says how much he hated him。The second is an extra word in a sentence。Plot: Sea battles and land battles against both slavers and Nox。Characters: Disappointed in the lack of looting compared to the other books。8/10

Too many issues to ignoreAgain, I have a problem with how Jim’s teammates are supposed to be deadly veterans while simultaneously acting like stupid teenagers。 Sure, they’ve trained for a few years, but so have plenty of other warrior cultivators in their world。 And while they received extra training from Jim, it doesn’t seem enough to warrant genius level growth。 Plus, that training wouldn’t be the same as the experience and ruthlessness possessed by many of the cold-blooded murderers they have Too many issues to ignoreAgain, I have a problem with how Jim’s teammates are supposed to be deadly veterans while simultaneously acting like stupid teenagers。 Sure, they’ve trained for a few years, but so have plenty of other warrior cultivators in their world。 And while they received extra training from Jim, it doesn’t seem enough to warrant genius level growth。 Plus, that training wouldn’t be the same as the experience and ruthlessness possessed by many of the cold-blooded murderers they have easily faced down。 I just think the author hasn’t spent enough effort actually developing his characters in a convincing way to sell them as elites。 They just are because the author says so。Another highly annoying team issue are the multiple cliched romances with bossy women and subservient yet overprotective males。 I’m all for equality but can’t stand double standards。 Regardless, even good romances can derail or undermine stories because they can highjack the narrative and open characters to vulnerabilities that are not properly addressed。 Unless the author is George RR Martin, sappy romances are sure to be the worst offenders in terms of plot armor。For example, these characters should be grappling with the cruel reality that one or more likely all of them will die because Jim is dragging them into *outrageously* dangerous situations that only he is likely to survive。 It should put a damper on any romantic plans or have them turning to each other with desperate lust。 Instead, it feels more like they are little kids playing house in a PG movie。 Here’s a snippet showing the level of cutesy crap the romances have injected into the story:“Can you imagine what [the girls] would do to us if we picked a color they didn’t approve of wearing?” [Jim] wasn’t the only one to shudder at the idea。 Nox destroying the world was bad, but that would be really bad。The main character is also constantly being pushed to the background in favor of spotlighting the weaker supporting characters。 Much like in the second book, he seems both less intelligent and ruthless except on rare occasions。 And sloppy as hell, getting surprised or tricked like some tourist on vacation instead of a six hundred fifty year old combat monster with a supposed sixth sense for danger。 There are glimpses of the old Jim from the first book once he does step up and it’s freaking awesome, but it’s inconsistent and quickly overshadowed by his irritating group and their boring drama。I still have the first book in the series fresh on my mind。 It was brilliant! If only the author would have focused on what made that book great - Jim’s intelligent and ruthless effectiveness, discovery and adaptation of his reborn condition, and a tight timeline of meaningful events with detailed progression。 Unfortunately, it looks like that ship has sailed。 I appreciate that the author made his work available on Kindle Unlimited and wish him the best of luck, but I couldn’t force myself to finish this book and I’m done with this series for now。 。。。more
